US House of Representatives approves $40 billion aid package for Ukraine -by Ecork

Ukraine War: Earlier, Biden signed a bill to speed up US arms deliveries to Ukraine against Russia.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the US House of Representatives will vote on a $40 billion military and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine on Tuesday evening.

The legislation is expected to pass in the House of Representatives and then the Senate in the coming days and go to the White House of President Joe Biden to sign the law, alleviating fears of an interruption in the supply of military aid to Kiev.

Biden asked Congress 10 days ago to approve an additional $33 billion in aid to Ukraine, but lawmakers decided to increase this total to $39.8 billion, adding additional military and humanitarian aid to Biden’s request.

In a letter to members of the House of Representatives urging passage of this package, Pelosi said, which builds on the strong support Congress already has, will be pivotal in helping Ukraine defend not only its own nation but democracy for the world.

Biden’s Democratic colleagues, who narrowly control both the House and Senate and Republicans, have said they support helping Ukraine.
