The internet was suspended until Thursday morning in Bhilwara town, Rajasthan after a 22-year-old man was stabbed due to a personal dispute.
The murder took place last night in the Kotwali Police Station area which is now under heavy police presence. Three people were arrested for the crime.
Some right-wing groups have called for lobbying over the murder. Rajasthan police are on alert after communal unrest in Karaoli, Alwar and Jodhpur in the past few weeks, and the internet suspension in Belwara came as a precaution.
The situation is currently under control in Belwara.
District collector Ashish Modi told NDTV that officers have been patrolling the city’s streets due to the sensitivity of the situation. Management is in talks with community leaders to ensure that the problem does not escalate.
