Taipei:

The deputy head of Taiwan’s defense ministry’s research and development division was found dead Saturday morning in a hotel room, according to the official Central News Agency.

Ou Yang Li-hsing, vice president of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, who is a military man, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning, CNA reported. He said authorities are looking into the cause of death.

Ou Yang was on a business trip to the southern province of Pingtung, CNA said, adding that he had been posted earlier this year to oversee various weapons production projects.

The military assets body is working to more than double its annual missile production capacity to close to 500 this year, as the island boosts its combat capability amid what it sees as a growing Chinese military threat.
