Rs 3,000-Crore Power Bill Leaves Family Shocked, Turns Out It Was Rs 1,300 -by Ecork

Madhya Pradesh’s state-run power agency blamed “human error” for the bill.

Three employees of the Madhya Pradesh state power company face disciplinary action after a Gwalior resident received a staggering electricity bill of Rs 3,419 crore.

Priyanka Gupta, a resident of Gwalior’s Shiv Vihar, woke up to a rude shock after receiving a monthly electricity bill of Rs 3,419,53,25,293 crore after which her father fell ill and had to be hospitalized.

Madhya Pradesh’s state-run power company blamed “human error” and later issued a repair bill of Rs 1,300.

The state government sacked the workers involved, suspended the assistant chief financial officer, and issued a notice of default to the district engineer.

Ms Gupta’s husband Sanjeev, a lawyer, said: “I checked the status of the July 20 license from the website of the power distribution company, but the same bill was shown issued there as well.
My father-in-law Rajendra Prasad Gupta, was discharged from the hospital on Monday only. “

The power company’s general manager Nitin Manglik blamed the surprise bill on a software error.

“An employee entered the user’s number in the parts field of the software, resulting in the bill with a higher amount. A revised bill of Rs 1,300 was issued to the consumer. ,” he said.

The incident drew widespread attention from across the country, with district representative and state energy minister Pradumn Singh Tomar saying: “When the mistake came to our attention it was rectified and action has been taken against the employee.”
