The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the second Global Virtual Summit on COVID-19 on Thursday hosted by US President Joe Biden.

She said the summit intends to mobilize new measures to meet the challenges of the pandemic and build a stronger structure for global health security.

Prime Minister Modi participated in the first global virtual summit on the COVID-19 hosted by Biden on September 22 last year.

The Middle East Airlines said in a statement on Wednesday: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the second virtual global summit on the emerging corona virus on May 12 at the invitation of the President of the United States of America, Joseph R Biden Jr.”

“The summit intends to mobilize new measures to address the ongoing challenges of the Covid pandemic and build a stronger global health security architecture,” the statement said.

The agency said that the prime minister will deliver his remarks at the opening session of the summit on the topic of “preventing epidemic fatigue and prioritizing preparedness.”

“India is playing a key role in the ongoing global efforts to combat the pandemic by providing safe and affordable vaccines and medicines, developing low-cost indigenous technologies for testing and treatment, genetic monitoring and capacity building for healthcare workers,” the report read. .

“India is proactively participating in multilateral fora with a view to strengthening and reforming the global health security architecture with the World Health Organization at its centre,” the ministry said.

It is expected that the leaders of a number of countries will participate in the summit.

The summit will also be attended by Heads of State/Government of Belize as Chair of the CARICOM, Senegal as Chair of the African Union, Indonesia as Chair of G20 and Germany as Chair of G7 respectively.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Director-General of the World Health Organization and other distinguished personalities will participate.

The Caribbean Community is an intergovernmental organization of 15 member states in the Caribbean whose primary objective is to promote economic integration and cooperation among its members.
