Mirabai Chanu is set to represent India at the 2022 World Cup after securing a gold medal in the 55 kg category by lifting a total of 191 kg at Singapore Weightlifting International on Friday (February 25). Chanu competing at the 55 kg level for the first time carried 191 kg (86kg + 105kg) to stand on top of the venue in an uncontested space.
The Indian has achieved his glory after securing India’s first medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He bravely fought to the finish and won silver in the women’s 49kg category. The Olympics have since continued to build and it has been pumping its sweat out through daily and daily training for the full event season for the 2022 season.

The CWG Qualification Event will take the top 8 winners in each category to qualify for the World Games in Birmingham from which Chanu has secured a place not only in the 49 kg category but also in the 55 kg category for India.
The 27-year-old Chanu is an employee for Birmingham 2022 at an average weight of 49kg based on his World rankings.
