Liton Das of Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim Slam Centuries To Put A Impact On Sri Lanka -by Ecork

Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das hit the crossroads for centuries and shared the record to turn the tide for Bangladesh in the second Test against Sri Lanka in Dhaka on Monday after a catastrophic start. In the stumps, Liton did not win with a good 135 performance with Mushfiqur on 115, his second percentage in several innings, as Bangladesh reached 277-5 in the first day after choosing to bat in Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The couple added 253 in their unbeaten sixth wicket stand after Sri Lankan sprinter Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando split five wickets between them to leave Bangladesh in tatters 24-5 in the turbulent first hour of the game.

Mushfiqur played a role in Bangladesh’s sixth highest wicket standings when he shared 191 games with Mohammad Ashraful, also against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2013.

Liton pulled off his third Test with 149 balls due to a foul, which gave Bangladesh five runs.

Mushfiqur, who also won 105 runs in the first Test shoot in Chittagong, and scored the ninth test percentage killed 218 balls.

The pair only gave way to Sri Lanka during their engagement for more than two seasons when Liton landed a catch on 47 off Fernando.

But Kamindu Mendis who replaced the field gained interest in the square footage back.

Kamindu came to the scene after Kusal Mendis went to a hospital with pain in his chest.

Mendis has since resigned to continue playing as his personal situation is found to be irrelevant, according to a Bangladesh Cricket Council spokesman.

The hosts made a nightmare start to the game as Rajita bowled opener Mahmudul Hasan for a duck with the second ball of the morning.

Fellow startup Tamim Iqbal, who scored a century in the first Test in Chittagong, also fell for a duck as he sent a leading edge off Fernando in the next on to be caught brilliantly by Jayawicrama at the back point.

Skipper Mominul Haque tried to settle the bodies with a four-pointer, including one away from the first ball he faced, but soon turned Fernando over to wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella when he was nine.

Rajitha then found a huge gap between the bat and the pad of Najmul Hossain, sending his mid-stump wheel with the inswinger as his left hand was removed for eight.

Rajita delivered a body ball following the Shakib Al Hasan foot-trap for a first-round duck, leaving Bangladesh batting confused.

Liton hit 16 fours and six and Mushfiqur hit 13 fronts so far.

Rajita finished the day with 3-43 while Fernando said 2-80.

Sri Lanka have rewarded Rajitha with a point in the eleventh after impressing in Chittagong by taking 4-60, playing the game as a concussion substitute for Vishwa Fernando.

It was one of their two changes, with Jayawicrama replacing Lasith Embuldeniya.

Bangladesh made two changes since the first Test as Mosaddek Hossain and Ebadot Hossain replaced the injured Nayeem Hasan and Shoriful Islam.
