Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun preparations to defend their crown under former skipper MS Dhoni. IPL 2022 kicks off on March 26 in Mumbai with CSK set to take on last year’s champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhoni landed in Surat on Thursday (March 2) for a training camp with a team of support staff including former Indian pacer and assistant CSK Laxmipathy Balaji.

According to ESPNcricinfo’s interaction with CSK President Kasi Viswanathan, the team management decided to start a pre-season camp in Surat in order to take advantage of the conditions. He also confirmed that the camp will start through March 8. All IPL seasons will be held in Mumbai and Pune while Surat is on the border of Gujarati and Maharashtra.

“With the clay foundation of Chennai, we decided to exercise on wickets that would be similar to those of Mumbai and Pune. Even so, the journey will be easier, ”Viswanathan told ESPNcricinfo.
