Former Pacer India star Ajit Agarkar was on Wednesday named as the assistant coach of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
As previously reported, Agarkar will join the team after completing his commentary work for the Indian series to Sri Lanka which starts on Thursday.
“I am very happy to be a part of the Delhi Capitals team for this season,” Agarkar said, on development in a team statement.

He expects to work with head coach Rishabh Pant and head coach Ricky Ponting.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be a player and to return to a different strength. He was obviously very excited. We have a young and awesome team led by one of the most talented players in the world. – Rishabh Pant.
“And coach Ricky Ponting has been the legend of the game. Hoping to work with them, he could not wait to start and create some special memories.”
The 44-year-old, with 288 ODIs and 58 Test wickets to his name, has represented the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He joins the Delhi Capitals coaching staff of Ponting, Pravin Amre (Assistant Coach) and James Hopes (Bowling Coach).

Agarkar, who led 288 wickets in 191 ODIs and 58 in 26 Tests for India, also guided Mumbai for the first time at the Ranji Trophy and helped them win the title in 2012-13. The Delhi assignment will be your first in any training role.
In the IPL, pacer played for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) from 2011 to 2013. He also played for the Kolkata Knight Riders between 2008 and 2010. In all, he played 62 T20 matches and picked up 47 wickets.
The capital Delhi has been among the most regular and successful teams in the last few seasons of the IPL. They have been in the finals for the past three years, with a finish in 2020 when they lost to Mumbai residents.
