India and South Africa: Dinesh Karthik crosses MS Dhoni For this great T20I record -by Ecork

Dinesh Karthik on Sunday overcame former Indian captain MS Dhoni to become the first Indian cricketer to score a half-century T20I. The 37-year-old Indian batter on Friday won his first half in the short format of the game for India. Karthik proved in Rajkot against South Africa in the 4th T20I of the five-point series as the Men in Blue made the series 2-2. He broke 55 off a total of 27 deliveries.

At 81/4 after 12.5 overs, India had their backs to the wall and Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya had a great performance on their hands.

Their stand of 65 killed only 33 deliveries injected some much needed effort into what was a cold hearted effort up to that point. Pandya scored 46 points out of 31 just before Ngidi left, and Shamsi won a big catch. Dinesh Karthik will continue in the same vein as he lost his partner, taking his daughter T20I at fifty.

He would walk back immediately afterwards, a great slog-attempt attempt against Dwaine Pretorius, but it was a well-executed performance in the 55th inning. India managed to score 73 runs in their last five games, ending with the highest competition. 169/6, largely due to the efforts of the shoes. In response, India combined the Proteas to only 87.

With a half-century of 37 years, 16 days – Dinesh Karthik became the oldest Indian to cross the 50-run mark in the T20Is (against South Africa, 2022).

MS Dhoni is 36 years old, 229 days after breaking the 50-run against South Africa in 2018. The third is Shikhar Dhawan who won at 35, one day against Australia in 2020.


After India’s 82-game victory, the series is set to be completed for the end of scintillating in Bengaluru. South Africa were impressive in the first two matches but the hosts fought with great joy to advance to the semi-finals.

The fifth and final fight will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 19, with the winner being hard to predict. With the T20 World Cup not far off, the pressure on the kitchen venue although it will be a perfect preparation for both teams heading to Australia.
