Following Dinesh Karthik’s goalless draw against South Africa at the 4th T20 International in Rajkot, legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar made a strong statement about his career to play in the T20 World Cup. Coming to bat with a score of 81/4 in 12.5 overs, Karthik blitzed 55 off 27 deliveries to help India deliver a total of 169/6, which is very clear for South Africa to pursue, as they fell to 82-run ijatil. She was a half-century Karthik virgin T20I.
“As far as Dinesh Karthik is concerned, there is a time when we have to throw bats at every delivery,” Gavaskar said during a break innings on Star Sports while analyzing India’s batting performance.
Karthik, 37, returns to the Indian national team after a stellar performance in the recently concluded 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).
But Gavaskar dismissed any concerns about his age saying he should be in the squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in Australia in October-November.
“Don’t look at his age, look at what he’s doing. If DK wasn’t on the plane to Melbourne, it would be a big surprise,” Gavaskar said.
Karthik hit 9 fronts and six assists in its attack, as India broke 73 games in the last five rounds. Hardik Pandya also contributed well, receiving 46 off 31 deliveries.
Avesh Khan then starred with football as South Africa fell to 87/9, with captain Temba Bavuma retired from injury.
With the series level at 2-2, both teams will now face off in the final in Bengaluru on Sunday.
