General VK Singh Welcomes 4-Legged Friend On Flight

One of those who left Ukraine through Poland received a special welcome.

New Delhi:

As India evacuated hundreds of more students on Wednesday from war-torn Ukraine, European Union Prime Minister VK Singh was seen welcoming a “four-legged friend” on one of the Air Force planes out of Poland.

He posted a video on Twitter of his meeting with the dog evacuee.

General Singh was one of the Union ministers leading the release of the Indians through several neighboring countries of Ukraine and was at Rzeszow Airport in Poland on Thursday with a C-17 Globemaster aircraft.

In videos posted on social media, he was seen welcoming Indian students on the plane.

As fighting intensified in Kharkiv, India on Wednesday urged citizens to leave Ukraine’s second-largest city quickly to three nearby “even on foot”, while Russia promised to create “Humanitarian routes” for the release of Indians from conflict zones.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held another high-level meeting on Thursday night on the Ukraine crisis as four European Union ministers sent to Ukraine’s neighboring countries combined to coordinate rescue efforts with the Indian Air Force and commercial aircraft.

Four Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster planes, including one from Poland, with about 800 migrants from Ukraine set to land at Hindon airport on Thursday, sources told the PTI news agency.

“We now estimate that almost 17,000 Indians have left the borders of Ukraine since our proposals were published. This is certainly the case with some Indians who have not registered with the foreign government already, ”said Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry.

Previously, the MEA had said that 20,000 Indians were in Ukraine when India issued its first proposal in mid-February when tensions between Russia and Ukraine began to grow.

Regarding the evacuation mission, Mr Bagchi said flights under ‘Operation Ganga’ had increased rapidly and six planes had arrived in India in the past 24 hours bringing the total to 15.

He said the total number of Indians who returned on these planes was 3,352. Of these, 1,796 were evacuated by Romania, 430 by Poland and 1126 by Hungary.

European Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Kiren Rijiju, Jyotiraditya Scindia and VK Singh are in Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Poland respectively to manage evacuation efforts.
