FIH Pro League: Indian Women Lu USA 4-2 -by Ecork

The Indian women’s hockey team came from a downhill to beat USA 4-2 in their first FIH Pro League double-header match in Rotterdam on Tuesday. Danielle Grega gave the USA the lead in the 28th minute through a field goal before the Indians forced their way back into the game through scoring Deep Grace Ekka (31st), Navneet Kaur (32nd) and Sonika (40th) to take 3- 1 lead. The Americans reduced the dream in the 45th minute by changing the penalty of Natalie Konerth before Vandana Katariya tied the game in favor of India with a field goal in the 50th minute.

India started on a positive note but the US had the world first in the form of a penalty kick in the 10th minute but lost.

The Indians soon had their first attack on the stadium but Gurjit Kaur’s effort from a penalty spot missed the venue.

In the 22nd minute, the US secured back-to-back penalty angles but lost both. Vandana’s twin effort from the field in the 27th minute was well guarded by the US but in the Indian process there was a penalty kick but no result.

A minute later, the US broke the lock by Grega who headed the ball into the box from high Erin Matson from the center, past Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi Kharibam.

In the 45th minute to the third quarter, India pulled the trigger by changing Deep Grace’s corner kick before the Navneet surprised the Americans with a stunning free-kick from the Vandana gate after a fine-kick from the right.

The Indians had their lives in the form of cornerstones but they lost them.

In the 39th minute, Bichu Devi made a great save to deny the Americans.

A minute later, Sonika expanded the Indian championship with a field goal, courtesy of a defensive challenge from the United States.

The US did not give up and reduced a margin in the attack of the third quarter by changing the penalty angle by Konerth.

Five minutes into the fourth and final quarter, India also took advantage of their two home runs when Vandana scored with a shot from the right.

After all, both sides tried hard for the sanctuaries, especially the US but failed in their intended Indian security violation.

India and the USA will also face each other in the second leg of the semi-final on Thursday.

Argentina won the trophy, finishing with 42 points from 16 matches, while India, who started first in the tournament, finished third with 27 points from 13 games.
