Farooq Abdullah on the killing of Pandit Kashmiri -by Ecork

The President of the National Congress Farooq Abdullah spoke with the delegation of Kashmiri Pandits.

National Congress Chairman Farooq Abdullah said on Saturday that every attack on the Kashmiri Pandits was an all-out attack on “the very soul of Kashmir” and that the rise in killings contradicted government claims that life was returning to normal in the valley.

The MP from Srinagar was interacting with a delegation from the Kashmir Pandits led by the deputy head of the party’s minority wing Amit Kaul, according to a party spokesperson.

“Every attack on our fellow Pandits is an all-out attack on the soul of Kashmir. I am looking for times when both Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits live side by side. However, the current government is limited to the land, no efforts have been made,” Mr. Abdullah said. To create an environment conducive to their safe and permanent return.

According to the spokesperson, the visiting delegation discussed with Mr. Abdullah a range of issues, particularly those related to the Kashmiri people living in the valley.

“They said that those who took government jobs as a first step towards rehabilitation are now struggling to pay timely earned wages, promotions and a decent quality of life,” he said, citing people who met Mr. Abdullah.

“They also stated that despite the political rhetoric of the incumbent government, it did nothing to make them feel safe and secure in all of Kashmir. They said the courage created by the ruling government did nothing to give them relief from the cramped neighborhoods and discriminatory service rules.”

Abdullah promised to take up the issues with the deputy governor of Union Territory and the Center, and emphasized that not only Kashmiri Pandits but also Sikhs and other minorities are part of the social and cultural environment in Kashmir, he said.

The interaction comes after a Kashmiri government employee Pandit and a policeman were shot dead by terrorists.

Militants entered the Tehsil office in Chadura and shot employee Rahul Bhatt on Thursday. A day later, policeman Riaz Ahmed Zakkar was shot in Jadoura in the area. He later died of his injuries.
