CWG 2022: India’s Gururaja Poojary Wins Bronze In Men’s 61kg -by Ecork

Gururaja of India won bronze in men’s 61kg weight

Gururaja Poojary of India showed his muscles and steel muscles as he did enough to give India its second medal at the 2022 World Games. Gururaja lifted a total of 269 kgs, one kg more than Youri Simard of Canada, to win bronze in 61kg male weight.

The diminutive Indian lifted a total of 118kg in the snatch and 151kg in the clean and jerk to ensure a medal for himself and the country. It was clear and in vain that Gururaja and Canada’s Simard went head-to-head in every attempt to secure the bronze medal. Simard lifted 149kg in his last attempt to go ahead of India but Gururaja gave it his all to lift 151 and seal the medal.

Aznil Bin Bidin Muhamad of Malaysia won the gold medal with a match record weight of 285kg (127+158). Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea won the silver with a total lift of 273kg (121+152).

Promotion

It is India’s second medal in the ongoing edition of the Games after Sanket Sagar won a silver in the men’s 55kg category.
