Students were seen being beaten by adults in a medical college in Madhya Pradesh

A video has emerged of university students beating a long line of youths, who stood with their backs against a wall, at a medical college in Madhya Pradesh, less than a week after another violent incident was reported from the largest government medical college in the state.

Two incidents of severe ragging in Madhya Pradesh in less than a week suggest students do not care about the consequences of their actions, education officials have said.

The latest ragging incident was reported from a medical college in Ratlam district.

In the nearly three-minute video, several high school students are seen beating a long line of junior students, who silently stare at the ground with their heads down as they beat, in sequence. They also heard that the older students were torturing the younger students who had gathered together.

Dr. Jagdish Hundekari, professor and department head of the Department of Physiology, said that the incident happened – the video was of ragging of the students of class 2021 by class 2020. That alone, added Dr. Hundekari, the hostel warden submit a report this Friday.

The matter was brought to the notice of the college authorities through the helpline of the National Medical Commission, after which a meeting of the protest committee of the college was held.

Taking into account the recent incidents of ragging, the committee recommended the high school students should be suspended from classes for six months and banned forever from living in the hostel.

The commission has also recommended filing criminal charges against adults.
