Arsenal completed the signing of high-profile Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira on a 40-million-euro ($ 42 million) deal on Tuesday. The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the most talented young stars in Europe after coming through the Portuguese youth team program. He played a key role in doubling Porto’s tally last season, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists in all competitions. In praise of Arsenal’s third signing of the transfer window, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta said: “I am delighted that we have identified and signed such an important talent.
“Fabio is a very creative player who will bring high quality and synchronization to our attacking game.”
Porto announced last week that Vieira, who competed in last year’s Under-21 European Championship, will travel to London after both clubs agreed a deal.
The Portuguese champions say the Gunners will pay the first ilẹ 35 euros for the midfielder, with the rest having potential additions.
Arsenal did not specify the length of the deal but Porto’s statement said he would sign a five-year deal.
Arteta is looking to add to his squad after Arsenal narrowly missed out on a return to the Champions League last season.
Edu technical director said Fabio was “an player who had special abilities that were comfortable with football in the last third of the pitch”.
Arsenal, who finished fifth in the Premier League last season, have already secured the signings of 19-year-old Brazilian Marquinhos from Sao Paulo and American goalkeeper Matt Turner.
Leicester striker Youri Tielemans has also been linked with a move to the Emirates.
