Indian weightlifter Sanket Sargar on Saturday won the silver medal in the men’s 55kg category at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games to open India’s Indian medal. In an interview with NDTV, Sargar spoke of his disappointment at not having gone all the way and won the gold. The 21-year-old lifted a total of 248kg in the squat and clean and jerk sections, but lost to Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq by one kg.

“I am happy that I won the medal, but a little sad as I wanted to win the gold,” said Sanket.

“I’m a little angry as well as I will have to do with a silver,” he added.

Sanket was injured to the clear end and part stressed as he said he would have to go in for treatment.

“The tail is on my elbow and the doctor has said that the gap has widened, so I need to go for treatment,” he said.

Sanket, son of a pan shop owner in Maharashtra’s Sangli, thanked his parents for supporting him and also mentioned that Olympian Mirabai Chanu was his inspiration.

“I have won an award for the country, it is the best feeling. I have to set my goals for the future. I get a lot of inspiration from Mirabai Chanu, she is always there for advice. You always share your experiences, we learn a lot.

“I would like to say to my parents that I thank them, they always support me. I just want to thank them, my coach. I have to recover and then I will set future goals for myself me,” Sanket entered.
