A nine-year-old boy slipped into a plane without his parents’ knowledge, and he flew some 1,600 miles[1,600 km]home. The incident, which left the boy’s parents in a state of shock, took place in Manaus, Brazil.
According to a report in the Mirror, the boy, Emanuel Marques de Oliveira, googled, “how to get on an unmarked plane” before embarking on the journey. The court threw police and airlines into a frenzy after the boy was reported missing at his home.
The boy’s mother, Daniele Marquis, said he lost her on Saturday, February 26. She said she did not notice he missed her before Saturday morning. He says: “I got up at five o’clock in the morning, went to his room, and found that he was sleeping well.
He adds: “Then I got on my cell phone, got up, and at seven o’clock in the morning, I found out that she was not in her room, and I started fear.
Terrified, he spent the day searching for Emanuel, but to no avail. According to reports, the boy was used to boarding a LatAm flight. He had no luggage, no travel documents, and he did not go with him. After leaving the plane, he reportedly ended up in Guarulhos, which is in southwestern Brazil.
An investigation into the incident has been ordered by authorities at Manaus airport. Police are looking into the matter and have called the airport to provide CCTV footage.
